Hurdy-gurdy in the Noh theater | Tokyo, Japan

Dave Dogface Kawamura, Katsuhiko Makino, Masashi Kuno and Liu Suzuki.
We play hurdygurdys on Nou stage, which is Japanese historical and traditional acting stage. Last year, I played HG solo. But this time, we played with 4 Japanese HG players! The performace is the quite first time on Japanese history. On March in next year, we play again on this place. And at the time, we use my portatif organ on the stage with HGs.You feel some differance from our performance, but the time ,when Nou was established on Japan, is same time when it was on the mid of Renaissance in Europe.

This is a set of photos in the noh stage the other day.
I was only one last year, but this time it was a luxury of 4 Hurdy Gurdies.
It was a 20-minute performance, but it was very thick and received from customers.
There is a noh stage in March next year, but at this time I will take an organ pipe from home.
This is a noh stage.
We are very excited to collaborate with unprecedented history.
The Photo was Kenji Osugi.

Noh stage, Wikipedia
Noh (能 Nō)—derived from the Sino-Japanese word for "skill" or "talent"—is a major form of classical Japanese musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. Developed by Kan'ami and his son Zeami, it is the oldest major theatre art that is still regularly performed today. Traditionally, a Noh program includes five Noh plays with comedic kyōgen plays in between; an abbreviated program of two Noh plays and one kyōgen piece has become common in Nohpresentations today. An okina (翁) play may be presented in the very beginning especially during New Years, holidays, and other special occasions.

Nō together with Kyōgen is part of Nōgaku theatre.

Noh is often based on tales from traditional literature with a supernatural being transformed into human form as a hero narrating a story. Noh integrates masks, costumes and various props in a dance-based performance, requiring highly trained actors and musicians. Emotions are primarily conveyed by stylized conventional gestures while the iconic masks represent the roles such as ghosts, women, children, and the elderly. Written in ancient Japanese language, the text "vividly describes the ordinary people of the twelfth to sixteenth centuries". Having a strong emphasis on tradition rather than innovation, Noh is extremely codified and regulated by the iemoto system.

I played the hurdy gurdy on the stage of Nou, which is the Japanese historical play having deep dignity.
I was so lucky, because we could not play on such stage easily.
I played some medieval music with my hurdygurdy for Japanese traditional dancers. It needed some courage because this is the first time in Japanese history that the hurdygurdy was played on the too quite conservative stage.
But I and my instrument [received] good comment from the audiences!
They said there were not any differences about [appreciating?] the sounds.
