Swiss folk metal institution Eluveitie experienced serious upheaval in its ranks this past May, when long-time members Anna Murphy (hurdy gurdy, vocals), Ivo Henzi (guitars), and Merlin Sutter (drums) announced their departure from the band. However, Eluveitie has found a more-than-worthy replacement on the hurdy gurdy in Michalina Malisz, a gifted young player from Poland. Metal Exposure’s resident hurdy-gurdy enthusiast Sam caught up with Michalina in the backstage dining room at Metropolishalle Potsdam on the last date of the band’s Eisheilige Nacht tour with Subway to Sally, where they discussed Michalina’s transition from fan to band member, Eluveitie’s upcoming acoustic album Evocation II, and what the future holds for both her and the band…

****North American Tour with Epica Announced!****
This fall, we will join forces with our new friends, the Dutch symphonic metal titans Epica, to tour North America - presented by REVOLVER Magazine. This fall trek will see both bands co-headlining, with Canada’s The Agonist supporting on all dates.
EPICA's Simone Johanna Maria Simons [Official] says the following about the upcoming tour: “We are ecstatic to finally return to North America. It is time to nurture our long-distance relationship with our fans over in North America. We'll have a wonderful time together and will perform songs spanning our entire discography. Anna Murphy was kind enough to meet with me for an interview for The Hurdy Gurdy Weekly while ELUVEITIE was on its North America tour. We met just before their incredible show on 4 October 2014 at Assembly Hall in Old Town Sacramento, California, USA. Without further ado, here is the interview in its entirety.

Despite it being a Wednesday night with cold rainy weather, devoted folk metal fans gathered in long lines outside Irving Plaza hours before the doors opened. The show marked the finale of US leg of Eluvetie’s Origins World Tour. It has been about two years since Eluveitie graced the NYC stage. On December 20 2012, they co-headlined with Wintersun and performed to a sold out show at the Gramercy Theater. This time around Eluveitie returned to promote their sixth studio album, Origins...*
