14 жовтня 2014р.м.Рівне, Палац дітей та молоді, зал театру студії "Від ліхтаря". В рамках фестивалю "Лірницька Покрова в Рівному" запрошуємо на перегляд документального фільму "Вільні люди" режисера Ганни Яровенко. *

П"ятеро сучасних кобзарів-лірників погодились на декілька днів стати манрівними співцями і спробувати заробити на життя манруючи селами та співаючи для людей на ярмарках, біля церков, у дворах, у полі. Для цього обрали кілька сіл Черкаської області. Як сьогодні люди це сприймуть? Чи є актуальним для нас те, про що співають лірники та кобзарі? Авторка порівнює сьогоднішні музичні смаки та нашу музичну спадщину.

 - This documentary film by Hanna Yarovenko entitled "Free People" sets five modern day kobzari and lirnyky to spend a few days as wandering singers trying to earn a living. The project was filmed in several villages in the Cherkassy oblast at traditional places like markets, near to churches, yards and fields. 

- How would present day society accept them? Are the songs of the kobzari-lirnyky appropriate for present day life? The producer compares today's musical taste to that of our (Ukrainian) musical heritage.

this date is chosen to remember and propogate "lirnyk culture" as it was they who roamed Ukraine singing psalms, kants and moralistic songs. The lirnyky (blind HG players & singers) were the moral and spiritual backbone of the Ukrainian people and were held in high esteem by the village folk compared to other folk singer musicians.

Every year on the 14th of October the Eastern Rite church celebrates the feast of Pokrova which is regarded as the most important kozak/cossack religious feastday. In the West it is usually translated as the Feast of Intercession.The Pokrov icon may well be related to the Western Virgin of Mercy image, in which the Virgin spreads wide her cloak to cover and protect a group of kneeling supplicants. This is first known from Italy at about 1280. So this is one of the most important dates in the religious calendar for Orthodox and Catholic churches. It seems fitting that this date is chosen to remember and propogate "lirnyk culture" as it was they who roamed Ukraine singing psalms, kants and moralistic songs. The lirnyky (blind HG players & singers) were the moral and spiritual backbone of the Ukrainian people and were held in high esteem by the village folk compared to other folk singer musicians.

This year the Festival is being held in Rivne, Rivne oblast (county) The days proceedings start with a religious service and the blessing of instruments. This will be followed by an exhibition of current HG's and a talk cum display on the technical nuances of making your own instrument. Later, a discussion will take place on the theme "Lirnyky of Volyn and Polissia" with a presentation of recordings of the lirnyk Vasyl Kuzmycha from Rozvoriany village in Peremyshlany district. Further planned input will be songs from Polissia utilising the recordings of Oleksij Oshurkevvych and the early day's events finishing with a documentary film entitled "Free People".

The festive day culminates with an evening Gala Concert with performances by present day lirnyky namely Layosh Molnar (Lviv), Oleksander Trius (Romyn), Andrij Liashuk (Rivne), Mychailo Haj and Lirnyk Yarema (both Kyiv) and other lira enthusiasts.
