Pierre-Yves Martel (Constantinople, Sainct Laurens) and Ben Grossman (Loreena McKennitt, Ensemble Polaris) – viola da gamba and hurdy gurdy, running the gamut from medieval music to Swedish folk, and from musique actuelle to electroacoustics. A rare convergence of two virtuoso musicians creating new sounds with ancient instruments in a fully improvisatory context.

Music geeks and/or those who want to have their minds expanded beyond the typical pop formula have four shows to take in this week, starting with Ottawa New Music Creators’ first gig of the season, a fully-improvised performance by Pierre-Yves Martel on viola de gambaand Ben Grossman on hurdy gurdy.
