By Facebook, I could meet a wonderful event of hurdygurdy on last Sunday.

The hurdygurdy maker Wolfgang Weichselbaumer came to Japan. I had got to know him by Facebook on issue of the Lira Organizzata. Wolfgang is the only person who can make the quite complex instrument.

A few days before, I accepted his announce that he would come to Japan, and he asked me talk about hurdygurdy. It is very lucky to me, because it is quite rare to came any hurdygurdy maker visit to Japan.

And it is the first time for me to meet a foreign friend whom I have never met except on Facebook.
I could meet him at my friend home. His name is Garyu Matsumoto who is a great Japanese musician, who plays many medieval & renaissance instruments, especially hurdygurdy and bagpipes in Japan. He had ordered his new hurdygurdy to Worfgang, and received it on yesterday.

We talked about the hurdygurdy for long time with delicious dishes made by his wife, and heard the new instrument.

The hurdygurdy has so sweet and gentle sound, which is Wolfgang's only sound in the world. It made me fascinated deeply. At that time I brought my one, it has different sound from his one, but the each sound has own sounds which are characteristic.

Garyu will make great playing with his Wolgang’s instrument. I must make good music with my George’s instrument.

Someday I wish to hear the sound of Lira Organizzata on live.

Onlangs werden we daarover gemaild door de verkoper, draailierbouwer Wim Clarijs. Naast nieuwbouw is hij enkele jaren geleden begonnen met zoeken naar oude (Franse) draailieren via internet. Het ging dan wel telkens om in onbruik geraakte “draailier-wrakken”. Zo heeft hij een aardige collectie opgebouwd die hij met veel genoegen nieuw leven inblaast.

Naast deze collectie worden er via onze website ook modernere draailieren en doedelzakken aangeboden.

we were Recently mailed by the seller, hurdy-gurdy Builder Wim Callahan. In addition to new construction, he started a few years ago searching for old (French) turn winches over the internet. It went or every disused "hurdy-gurdy-wrecks". He has built up quite a collection which he breathes new life into great pleasure.

Besides the beauty of the hand-carved embellishments and warm color of the wood, this instrument has a beautiful tone, somewhat lighter and clearer than other styles of gurdy. 28" end-to-end, 11" at its widest and 6.25" deep. 4 Violin-type friction pegs. New keys, new tangents, new bridge, done by a professional luthier. No defects, plays and sounds beautifully.This gurdy was designed to be played in the key of C, but can be tuned to D. Traditional all-wood construction, including wooden crank, which functions perfectly. Am Freitag dem 6.Juni werden wir unser einziges Konzert für 2014 in Österreich spielen. Auf der schönen Festung Kufstein beim RITTER - FEST. Der Einlass ist um 16.00Uhr, unser Konzert findet um 21.00Uhr statt, als Support Act werden die Streuner auftreten.
Mit Gauklern, Feuerspuckern und vielen Marktständen wurde das RITTERFEST zu einem der 5 besten Mittelaltermärkte der Saison 2013 gekürt.

At friday the 6th june 2014 we will play our only concert in 2014 in Austria at the Ritterfest Kufstein. We will play in the impressive castle of Kufstein at the RITTER FEST. The get in is at 4pm, the STREUNER will play as our support act and our concert will start at 9pm.
With jugglers, fire artists and many booths the RITTER FEST was nominated as one of the best medieval markets of the season 2013.
